I have used this distiller for a few weeks to convert relatively salty though technically drinkable Florida water into pure distilled water for use. After about 15 gallons, I have this much to say about it: By in large this distiller works well though many of the previous reviewers were quite right about one thing: get a timer switch. This distiller runs dry, and if the water has high levels of iron, magnesium, and/or calcium, the result will be a difficult to clean scale deposit. The distiller does come with some unidentified chemical as a scale cleaner/remover though it would be best to prevent the scale entirely by not allowing the distiller pot to run dry. I bought this timer and it works fine:
